Matt Blunt signed a bill last week in an effort to curb metham- phetamine labs. The measure will electronically track purchases of pseudoephedrine products, which contain the key ingredient found in meth.

Only Oklahoma and Kentucky have electronic tracking databases, which stop illegal sales of pseudo ephedrine pills including Sudafed at the counter. Police say the measure is better than tracking purchases via sorting through paper log books but doubt it will deter pill shoppers from crossing state lines to buy the pseudo ephedrine they need to make meth. Police also caution that meth makers already have adapted to federal laws limiting the amount of pseudo ephedrine to 9 grams in 30 days by making smaller doses of meth at a time or having multiple people buy pills to skirt the legal limits.Missouri has led the nation in the number of meth lab seizures in recent years.
